Abstract:
Abstract Foretelling the future is always a highly speculative task and one that involves many pitfalls. For example there is often a tendency to underestimate the achievements of past generations and to overestimate technological progress, although in today’s banking industry the opposite seems to be the case. Another pitfall is to extrapolate existing trends into the future without paying attention to the conditions and circumstances for business. Indeed many forecasts tell us more about the present and the recent past than about the future.
