Investment Banking: The Inevitable Triumph of Incentives over Ethics
John Reynolds
Chapter 6 in Crisis and Recovery, 2010, pp 123-146 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Investment banking is a necessity in the modern economy. It enables companies and governments to finance and carry out increasingly global activities. It offers significant rewards to some investment bankers. It is vulnerable to abuse and the relentless pursuit of money and, by implication, power. Can it be ethical or is it intrinsically unethical, given the huge temptations?
