Introduction

Eva R. Porras

A chapter in The Cost of Capital, 2011, pp 1-5 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract A fundamental dilemma common to individuals, firms, and nations is how to make the best use of their resources. This book is concerned with one of those resources: the financial capital raised to operate and expand a business. The earnings that individuals can expect to receive by making portfolios of investments depend on the returns those nations and firms pay for their savings, which overall are a function of the risk the investors acquire.
