Chapter 1 in Values and Opportunities in Social Entrepreneurship, 2010, pp 1-5 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The conference series that inspired this book was launched in 2005, in Barcelona, with the first International Social Entrepreneurship Research Conference (ISERC) hosted by IESE Business School. This event was followed in 2006 by ISERC2 at New York University (NYU), and then led to ISERC3 at the Copenhagen Business School in 2007. When planning the first ISERC conference we faced a situation in which hardly any academic research into social entrepreneurship was available. Our motivation was to ‘stimulate scholarly discourse [and] demonstrate that rigorous research can be done in this field’ (Mair et al., 2006: 3) as well as ‘foster collaboration between a group of scholars with common interests’ (Robinson et al., 2009: 1).
