Abstract: Abstract The Republic of Ecuador is situated in the northwestern part of South America, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the west, Colombia to the north and Peru to the east and south. Its total area is 256,370 square kilometers with the following borders: Colombia, 590 kilometers; Peru, 1420 kilometers; and the coastline, 2237 kilometers (see Figure 8.1).
