Chapter 7 in Trans-Cultural Leadership for Transformation, 2010, pp 189-225 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Many organizations have been subjected to environmental change, which puts them under pressure to do something to change their situations. But still organizational culture often gets ignored to be looked at in accounting for organizational performance. For transformation expert trainers and consulting firms are asked to develop organizational change programs. Increasing amounts of management literature providing best practice guidance on how to implement change management successfully fill out bookshelves and bookstores. However, in spite of good advice and programs many organizational changes fail, because management fails to raise awareness of the opportunity of transformation as a sustainable survival strategy. Many organizations have fallen asleep and need a wake-up call to relearn how to survive and not go on “burning out.” Many surveys report that managers are generally insufficiently skilled in change agency (Hamlin et al., 2001).
