A chapter in The Learning Advantage, 2011, pp 1-15 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract To illustrate the difficult task of learning to be a leader, we want to begin by sharing a personal story on learning and leadership. The story helps clarify our own philosophy about learning and the role of the leader. One weekend, several years ago, we tried to “teach” our oldest son to ride a bike. Since we are both educators and have done quite a lot of research on how people learn, we thought we could apply some of what we know to this situation. After two days on the school parking lot, we got a lesson in leadership and learning.
