Abstract: Abstract After the collapse of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) state- commanded economies, multinational companies (MNCs) have become key agents in engaging the region in global capitalist production. MNCs, however, are controversial actors. Many conceive them as ‘footloose’ enterprises making workers more defenceless against economic exploitation. At the same time, MNCs may attract further investments, infrastructural advancement and increase labour demand. They frequently offer higher average wages than small- or medium-size enterprises in the same industry.
