Chapter Chapter 5 in Scenario Thinking, 2011, pp 83-102 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we set out the various stages and options for undertaking two augmented and more highly-developed scenario approaches. These are not stand-alone approaches, in that they each relate to and build upon the basic method outlined in Chapter 2. As such, they must be read in conjunction with Chapter 2 for implementation purposes, and only after Chapter 2 in terms of developing your overall understanding of scenario method. Additionally, the two approaches outlined do not stand apart from each other. They can each be implemented separately as extensions of the basic method, or they can be combined with each other and the basic method in order to bring both greater depth of understanding of the content that informs the analytic process, and greater breadth to consideration of the impacts of driving forces and events across human society and the natural environment over time. The second augmentation, which brings in consideration of “broad” stakeholder analysis (Freeman and Reed, 1983), demonstrates application of the “critical scenario method” (CSM) approach that we introduced in Chapter 4.
