Abstract:
Abstract Regardless of the wide range of anti-corruption measures proposed across the region during the past decade, corruption in South East Europe (SEE) is still endemic, including in the new EU member states Bulgaria and Romania. Corruption remains one of the major obstacles for sustainable development in the South East European countries. Together with the related malfunctioning of the judicial systems, it is seen as a significant obstructive factor for the accession and integration of the region into the European Union (EU) and into its system of rule-of-law institutions.
