The Threats: Economic, Social, and Political Effects of Corruption and Bribery

Chapter 1 in Corruption, 2011, pp 19-25 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Bribery and corruption introduces an opaqueness into the relationship between buyers and sellers, between those who issue contracts and those who tender for them, between those who hold political power and citizens who must obey authority. This in turn leads to a weakening of trust in ostensibly fair practice at one level, and in disillusionment with political and market procedures at another level.
