It All Pivots Around Social Media

Michael Kare-Silver

Chapter 8 in E-Shock 2020, 2011, pp 48-65 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) predicts that e-commerce will bring European retailers some €2bn each month on average through 2011. That’s a 23% increase versus the previous year. Meantime, spending in shops in expected to stay flat with at best a 0.5% increase forecast. With e-commerce now the norm and in fact the only growth option, what will be the next evolution and how should retailers capitalize upon and maintain that e-commerce momentum? The answer, according to the CRR: “It all pivots around social media”.
