Abstract:
Abstract In a world where interdependence between societies is gaining more and more recognition, a functioning global democracy is only possible if individuals have the ability to have a say in their future and are able to participate in global decision making processes. This is the new age definition of human rights and democracy. One of the major prerequisites of such participative democracy is for the masses to have an interest in the events that impact their lives, and on having such an interest, to have the means and access to information. Enabling this is a global responsibility beyond that of any single country. However, currently the curricula of many national education systems focus on nation building, with an insufficient emphasis on global citizenship.
