Abstract: Abstract Academics are hardly known for resistance in the workplace. They are, perhaps, better known for constant intrigues regarding career steps and research grants. But, possibly, something is happening. The background is a trend towards managerialism, which means that universities are now being managed like any other organization. Academics are also being burdened with growing administrative tasks: forms to fill in, bureaucratic reports to write and send to some or other manager, and administrative meetings they are expected to participate in. This involves market orientation and a great stress on economic considerations. Managers get more say — teachers and researchers less.
