Worldly Leadership and Concepts of Community

Gareth Edwards

Chapter 6 in Worldly Leadership, 2012, pp 85-100 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter is an exploration of the concepts of community as related to the worldly leadership perspective. It is based on a reading of Delanty’s major review of the literature on community (Delanty, 2003) and therefore represents an initial exploration with some tentative suggestions for further research (all references to Delanty in this chapter are to that of his work Community in 2003). The chapter explores community as a basis for theorizing and researching the worldly leadership perspective. The suggestion being that if the worldly leadership perspective is about gaining insight regarding leadership practices in indigenous cultures, then the concept of community could help to uncover important elements of what leadership means to these indigenous cultures through how they present themselves as a community.
