Chapter 2 in Global Elites, 2012, pp 38-53 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Issues of ‘visibility’ and ‘invisibility’ are not new. Constructing ‘realities’ has always involved a manipulation of what is seen and not seen. One must be aware of the invisible behind what is permitted to be visible and how one must deal with the invisible before efficaciously reacting to the visible. The visible and the invisible and the graduations/shadows between them are interrelated realities of the political condition. The most important power struggles and gambits are over the ability to control or flux ‘(in)visibility’.
