Regulatory and Policy Impact on the Use of Existing Patents to Enhance Technological Innovation in the Single Market of the European Union

Victor Rodriguez

Chapter 11 in Regulating Technological Innovation, 2011, pp 212-224 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Patents can be used by industry, government and academia for myriad purposes. What use do patent holders make of their patents? Why are some patents exploited commercially, while others are licensed out to other firms and still others are left unused? These questions are relevant, as the ability to translate new technologies into economically valuable goods or services is crucial for the competitiveness of firms in the single market of the EU.
