Interview techniques

Adrian Furnham

A chapter in The Talented Manager, 2012, pp 131-133 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Why do books concerned to teach “killer interview questions” sell? To outfox and outgun the smarmy, over-confident interviewee? Perhaps. But there now exist just as many books that provide “brilliant answers” to tough questions. So both parties now come armed into the smoke-and-mirrors charade called the job interview. And, as in war, the first casualty is truth. Some interviewers see the event as a PR opportunity. Others as an impres-sion wrestling match. And a few as a fact-finding mission.
