Chapter 2.8 in Stories to Tell Your Students, 2011, pp 118-120 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Jatakas are birth stories of the former lives of the Buddha. They introduce the concept of the bodhisatta or bodhisattva, the being who is born numerous times while he practices different virtues such as generosity, wisdom, truth, kindness, and equanimity on the path to enlightenment. Thus for the making of a Buddha, a series of deeds may have to be performed in order to reach enlightenment.
