Abstract: Abstract Under present conditions the idea of empowerment can mean one of two things in practical terms. It either means delegated decision-making within a tight accountability framework, or it means creating a more inclusive and fraternally associated work community through managers listening and responding to employees’ ideas, desires and needs. Both meanings might be attributed to an agenda for organisational reform based on ideas of innovative and entrepreneurial organisations. The latter we regard as a viable agenda for social responsibility.
