Starting-Point
Neville Bain
Chapter 1 in Successful Management, 1995, pp 1-13 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The starting-point is a survey which produced seventy responses from successful senior managers and twenty professionals who were working in the field of executive search or who were providing services to firms on selection techniques. The survey was undertaken to establish the following: How are general managers chosen and what support are they given early in their first post? What were their first significant actions? What are the most important characteristics in a general manager, and how are these likely to change in the future? How do successful managers divide their time amongst aspects of their jobs, and how does this compare with what the professionals expect?
