Chapter 1 in Economics, Ethics and Religion, 1997, pp 1-21 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The interest taken by economists in ethical issues and beliefs, and that taken by moral philosophers and theologians in economics, have both revived in recent years. This book is intended to make a contribution to the cross-fertilisation of ideas that is occurring where these disciplines meet. One aim is to provide a literature survey, which will be useful for further work in this area. For this reason this study contains an extensive bibliography. At the same time the author attempts to evaluate the major contributions to the literature, and place them in the context of related writings. Hence the work of theologians and moral philosophers is juxtaposed with the contributions of economists, which results in some interesting comparisons.
