Chapter 6 in Project Appraisal and Valuation of the Environment, 1996, pp 119-145 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Electricity is widely considered essential for economic development. Consequently aid agencies have financed large numbers of electricity supply projects in developing countries. However the supply of electricity almost always involves sensitive environmental issues. Depending on the technology adopted, these issues may include the use of non-renewable energy resources, local and regional air pollution from thermal power stations, occupational hazards, site-specific impacts of power stations, ecological and social impacts of hydro projects, the risk of nuclear accidents and greenhouse effects.
