Abstract: Abstract Motor vehicles are a prime cause of air pollution, noise and accidents in cities and a heavy consumer of energy resources. Roads divide communities and encourage urban sprawl. Moreover they often fail to provide an efficient service — heavy congestion characterises most cities.
