Product Introduction Process
John Garside
Chapter 4 in Plan to Win, 1998, pp 95-136 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The introduction of new products is crucial to the long-term viability of a company. Once an order has been accepted it is important to have a defined product introduction process that progresses the work carried out in preparing the product specification, through product and process design, and into production. Creating a generic product introduction process that satisfies all sections of manufacturing industry would be far too complex for some particular sectors, but all new product developments must pass through a number of phases. This chapter provides a framework for these processes and identifies the transfer reviews that are required to maintain control, ensuring the project remains on time and within budget.
