Abstract:
Abstract Workplace violence has been recognised in the United States as a significant problem facing workers and employers. Interest in the area has come from a number of sectors, including the media, academia, as well as government research agencies. Our goal is to provide a better understanding of workplace violence in the United States through: a review of the workplace violence research to date in the US; a secondary data analysis of the National Crime Victimisation Survey that examines the extent of violent victimisations while the respondent was working or on duty, characteristics of such victimisations, and the reporting behaviour of the victims; and a discussion of the implications of the results of these studies and our NCVS results for homicide and non-fatal violence prevention and security in the workplace.
