Commitment: The Long-Term View
Michael Kare-Silver
Chapter 6 in Strategy in Crisis, 1997, pp 80-97 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract At the heart of the new model lies commitment (Figure 6.1). It's the stuff that successful companies are made of. It is the underpinning for lasting corporate success. It is hard to develop. It requires enormous determination and great leadership to gather the necessary understanding, set the long-term goal, convince others and then institutionalise it through the organisation. Once established, however, it provides the strength and momentum that, come what may, this organisation - like Microsoft for example - will have the best chance to win out and dominate its markets.
