Chapter 5 in The Distributional Effects of Government Spending and Taxation, 2006, pp 135-165 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Taxes and social benefits affect household income through several different channels and these effects can be assessed in a number of ways. This chapter focuses on the influence of social and fiscal policies on income inequality. In particular, we analyze how tax and benefit payments alter the distribution of household incomes in the European Union (EU). Our aim is to provide evidence on the effectiveness of a wide range of different policy configurations at reducing disparities of household resources.
