Chapter 6 in The Japanese Economy, 1997, pp 106-135 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we locate the Japanese corporation within its institutional setting and attempt to reveal the extent to which Japanese firms differ from Western ones both in terms of their objectives and the mode in which they are managed. Elsewhere, we shall deal specifically with personnel management, the development of technology and the capacity of Japanese firms to adapt to structural economic changes.
