Chapter 5 in Competition, Gender and Management, 2012, pp 106-132 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Assembling different standpoints is the bedrock for social scientists driven by the process of researching questions through the qualitative collection of experiences. For me the question ‘Is competition gendered?’ has led to building this anthology of managers’ stories which I draw on throughout this book. One could describe such research as the opportunity to explore the insights of individuals as a collective, finding commonalities and unique perspectives. During this project it has become clear that competition in the lives of managers is usually left to its own devices and yet, on closer examination, exists in many aspects of individual identities. Like any dynamic, if competition is left unchecked it is an opportunity missed.
