Chapter Chapter 3 in Going South, 2012, pp 87-122 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The summer and autumn of 2011 was a strange and troubling time in British life, not least the because of the famously erratic weather, which displayed many of the features of autumn in the summer and bursts of near-Saharan sunshine in the autumn. The disturbing nature of public affairs gathered force into the first six months of 2012, as did the topsy-turvy nature of the climate, with a mild New Year followed by a cold February, a balmy March and the wettest April on record.
