Repositioning Organization Theory

Chapter 8 in Repositioning Organization Theory, 2006, pp 179-192 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This book has studied the political positioning of organization theory. Although the discourse of positioning – that is, fixing, placing and locating – has, in the wake of the so called postmodern project, not been very popular, I have argued that there can only be something called society because social relations are organized and positioned in particular ways. Society and organization thus go hand in hand. This implies that, if we care about how society looks like, we need to know about how it is organized and positioned – and this is essentially the realm of politics.
