Swissair: Crashed and Burned

Chapter Chapter 7 in Greed And Corporate Failure, 2006, pp 116-134 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The collapse of Swissair illustrates that even a company with – on the face of it – a board of strong non-executive directors with outstanding personal track records, can get things wrong. It is a story of poor strategic decisions, a failure to properly assess risk and the dangers of over-reliance on external consultants. It also shows that even a renowned brand is not invulnerable.
