Abstract: Abstract Across the industrialized world the tasks completed by workers in the transport industry are highly diverse and as a result drivers face exposure to a wide range of risks. The working conditions of transport workers are also significantly different to those of most other workers. For example, in addition to the ‘mobile’ nature of their workplace, transport workers are employed in an industry where the reward system is frequently based on task completion rather than hours on-the-job, the ‘command’ structure tends to be a ‘chain of responsibility’ rather than a distinct employer/employee hierarchy, and the organization of work is generally less prescriptive than in most other occupations.
