Rehan ul-Haq
Chapter 3 in Alliances and Co-Evolution, 2005, pp 53-95 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides a review of foundations of strategy, major perspectives used in analyzing strategic alliances and a summary of key academic papers. The review details a number of theoretical perspectives — economic (market power, transaction cost, agency, increasing returns, game), strategic management and organization (population ecology, resource-dependency, organization structure and management, organizational learning, trust) — and adds to understanding the lifecycle of a strategic alliance in the commercial world, from stages of formation through management and evolution to dissolution.
