A chapter in The People Business, 2005, pp 26-28 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract How do you design shops and arrange products to maximize sales? Supermarkets know the importance of layout. Shoppers are confronted first by fresh produce to convince them that they need a cart rather than a basket. Then the staples — bread and milk — are often furthest away from the entrance, and each other, to make customers walk the aisles.
