Guide to Strategic Outsourcing and Partnership Management

Bianca Piachaud

Chapter 6 in Outsourcing of R&D in the Pharmaceutical Industry, 2004, pp 146-172 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The prevailing economic environment offers more interesting and valuable opportunities for strategic outsourcing than ever before. The increasing popularity of outsourcing strategies reflects the concurrent growth of the partnership approach to managing supplier relations. More importantly, it also reflects the rising influence of strategy concepts like core competencies, which encourage companies to compete for the future by focussing on developing depth of learning in carefully selected core activities, while creating value for customers through a network of supply partnerships with other similar focussed firms.1
