Private and Public Schools: Theoretical Considerations
Gianni De Fraja
Chapter 3 in Education, Training and Labour Market Outcomes in Europe, 2004, pp 38-68 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract There is a long-standing debate on the relative merits of state and private education. In the UK, Tony Blair is the first prime minister ever to send his children to a state school;1 in Italy, the issue has emerged as one of the main priorities of the conservative government elected in 2001. The debate is often emotional and rarely balanced. This chapter offers a survey of an economist’s view on the topic.
