Faceless Figures: Is a Socially Responsible Decision Possible?
Jean-Luc Moriceau
Chapter 6 in Stakeholder Theory, 2005, pp 89-103 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The ‘invisible hand’ has to be limited. The hand is not always that of a magician, transmuting the selfish interest of each individual into the collective interest. Sometimes the hand needs a rap across the knuckles. The hand cannot just hold everything and take everything; it also needs to be a hand stretched out to those whom it is strangling. Being invisible, it operates incognito, without a face, and thus without responsibility.
