Different Paths towards Integration

Abstract:
Abstract Few areas of economic theory are viewed more favourably than those relating to international trade and its central role in efficient resource allocation. Nevertheless, the traditional paradoxes that exist between the concrete forms of specialization found in the real world and those that should emerge in theory have not yet been sufficiently clarified. Beyond the purely theoretical, countries and policy-makers are constantly faced with the need to define policies within a framework in which tariff and non-tariff barriers as well as subsidies determine specialization patterns that are very often far removed from the factors of production available.
