Abstract:
Abstract The 1997 Agreement on Basic Telecommunications (ABT) reached under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) was a milestone in the history of the multilateral trade system. This agreement affected more than 90 per cent of the world market for telecommunications. In the developing world, liberalization and privatization reforms have been substantial. Telecommunications and networking possibilities are no longer limited to narrowband, land-line analogue wireless telephony. The choice of available technologies is expanding at a tremendous rate.
