Scenarios: A Virtual Trip Through Time

William E. Halal

Chapter Chapter 10 in Technology’s Promise, 2008, pp 146-161 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract I find it fascinating and humbling to witness the harsh lives people struggled through when the world was very different. One of my favorite movies is Quest for Fire, reliving the ordeals prehistoric men faced in keeping the hearth burning, fighting ferocious beasts, and surviving massive wounds without medical care. The medieval period is equally intriguing, with its feudal lords and bishops ruling ignorant peasants. Even the last few decades were replete with ideas soon to be overthrown, like the simmering confict between Capitalism and Communism and the innocence of communications before the Internet.
