Chapter 4 in Performance Measurement of New Product Development Teams, 2009, pp 73-93 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter reviews theories and evidence concerning the effects of incentives on team effort, team performance, and team outcome. Previous studies investigated incentive-individual effort and effortperformance relationships but little research has been undertaken to investigate the combined incentive-effort-performance-success relationships have, which is important in explaining the success of NPD. Four theories of agency, stewardship, social identity, and selfcategorisation are used to develop a conceptual framework to understand the relationships of incentive-effort, effort-effectiveness, effort-performance, and performance-success.
