Abstract: Abstract The Republic of Chad, twice the size of France, with 10 million inhabitants, is among the poorest countries in the world, ranking 170th out of 177 countries in the Human Development Index. Like other countries in the Sahel, it is affected by a chronic, multidimensional, structural conflict, characterized by political instability, the collapse of traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms, the emergence of armed groups, and trans-border involvement of neighbouring conflicts, with many of the hallmarks of a complex emergency.
