Abstract:
Abstract In May 2004, at the request of the UN secretary-general, the UN General Assembly decided to convene at the commencement of its sixtieth session in 2005 in New York a high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly to comprehensively review the implementation of the Millennium Declaration and the integrated follow-up of the major UN conferences of the 1990s in the economic, social and related fields. The General Assembly requested the UN secretary-general to submit a comprehensive report on the Millennium Declaration, including progress in meeting the MDGs and their financing. The report would also draw on the findings of the High-level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change that the UN secretary-general had established in 2003. The meeting was held between 14 and 16 September 2005 at the level of heads of state and government. A civil society Millennium Forum was also held and a High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development at the ministerial level.
