Edward Albee

Abstract: Abstract Edward Albee, the American playwright, is known for works and themes that have changed the landscape of American drama. His well-known plays – such as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The Zoo Story, Three Tall Women and The Sandbox – are often complex examinations of the modern condition. The originality he continues to bring to his productions makes him distinct from other playwrights of his era. He has received three Pulitzer prizes, a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement, the National Medal of Arts and other honors. He frequently speaks at university campuses and is president of the Edward F. Albee Foundation, which maintains a writers' and artists' colony.
