Abstract The METI elite officer was a graduate of Tokyo University with a law degree. He was politically conservative. His views about America and American society were generally positive. In his early forties, he had a penchant for hunting and fishing and country music. When he returned to METI, he assumed the position of Director of the Imports Division.1
