A chapter in The Poverty of Nations, 1999, pp 1-27 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract As the world stands on the threshold of the twenty-first century, terrible poverty still appears to be a universal phenomenon. While most countries and regimes of the world are experiencing an improvement in affluence in varying degrees, the existence of poverty in almost every region cannot be denied. This hypothesis about a simultaneous existence of poverty and affluence everywhere, however, needs to be tested and either established or rejected — wholly or partly — and strategies and policies must be evolved for eliminating the remaining poverty.
