Chapter 12 in The Spanish Economy in the New Europe, 2000, pp 224-241 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The establishment of economic and monetary union (EMU) marks the culmination of the European integration process that began in the late 1950s under the Treaty of Rome. Despite the lingering uncertainties over the economic implications of EMU membership for the member countries, progress on the theoretical side and the empirical experience of the process shed light on what may lie ahead.
