Abstract: Abstract In the preceding introductory chapter, the evolution and, for some, the ‘crisis’ of the systems of social protection (which we call the ‘Welfare State’), and the evolution towards greater social integration, have been placed in relation to the structural changes of the contemporary economy. However, the reference to such changes was very general.
